Washington National Forests and Parks
One of the most spectacular parks in North America is the North Cascades National Park. With only 386 miles of trails there is plenty of off trail country to explore. This is a very rugged area with incredibly jagged peaks and deep valleys. It also holds over 300 glaciers. The hiker will need solid hiking boots, good map reading skills and plenty of off trail hiking experience if you want to venture off. If you choose this area to hike you will not be disappointed.
The park is over 504,000 acreas and was established in 1968.
Access to the North Cascades and Ross Lake area is from I-5 at Burlington, west of the mountains, and Twisp, on the east, following Washington State Route (SR) 20 with branch routes to Baker Lake (Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest) and the Cascade River.
