
Edith-Baldy Basin Trail
Getting There: Drive 2.5 miles east of Townsend on U.S. Highway 12 to Highway 284 and turn left, heading north for 12 miles to the Duck Creek Road turnoff. Turn right on Duck Creek Road for an additional 12 miles to the top of Duck Creek Pass. Turn right into a turnaround just after reaching the summit. The trail begins at the south side of the turnaround.
This basin begs to be explored. Camp here and take day trips out to the numerous lakes and mountain vistas.
Location: 30 miles southeast of Helena in the Big Belt Mountains
Trailhead: Edith Lake Trail 152, Duck Creek Pass Trailhead
Elevation: The trail starts at 6,900 ft, with a high point of 8,800 ft before dropping down to the lake which sits at 8,000 ft
Trail Length: 12 miles roundtrip, or 25 miles if you hike the Edith-Baldy Loop trail
Elevation Gain: 1,900 ft and a 800 ft climb out of the lake coming back
