
Idaho's Park-N-Ski Program
Idaho has a serious cross-country ski program in place. It supports 180 miles of marked groomed and ungroomed ski trails in some of Idaho's most scenic country. Park-N-Ski has 18 areas divided into 4 regions.
North Idaho (Priest Lake Area)
Central Idaho
Eastern Idaho
Southern Idaho (Idaho City Area)
The fee's go towards maintaining the trails, plowing parking lots, and grooming trails.
Speaking of fee's they are fair beyond belief, $25 for an annual permit and $7.50 for a 1-3 day temporary pass. The passes are also good in Oregon and Washington. Permits can be purchased at these locations or on-line.
Idaho also has a Yurt and Cabin system on some of these trails for overnight backcountry stays. There are 6 yurts set up in the Idaho City area. It is a 2-3 mile ski into these units and they sleep 6 people. The rentals run from $75 a night on week days to $90 Friday thru Sunday a night. They are well stocked and cozy. If its cabins your looking for Idaho has 12 state parks with backcountry cabins. All cabins have heaters and lockable doors and windows.
