H2No Fabric
More of a classification than a specific technology, shells with H2No Storm utilize a range of laminates and coatings made from varying applications of polyester and/or polyurethane to achieve a standard of waterproofness and breathability that's best suited for a specified performance range.
2.5-Layer H2No® Storm
The 2.5-layer version is a completely waterproof, windproof and breathable barrier that offers excellent packability and lighter weight. It uses a slightly raised interior pattern that protects the waterproof barrier and allow for a smooth glide owver fleece insulation. Becarse of the reduced materials and weight, 2.5-layer H2No Storm is good for emergencsy wet-weather gear that can be packed tight when not in use.
3-Layer H2No® Storm
3-layer H2No is a completely waterproof, highly breathable and packable fabric package that has no hanging liner to wet out or bind. Instead, we use a nylon tricot scrim that disperses moisture and protects the barrier from abrasion. 3-layer H2No Storm offers increased durability over its lighter weight counterpart.
Deluge® DWR Outershell Fabric
Patagonia’s proprietary durable water repellent fabric finish, Deluge® DWR, lasts substantially longer than standard DWRs. Garments with the Deluge DWR finish have like-new repellency after years of extensive use.
Because Deluge DWR is so effective at repelling light rain and snow, we can forego the use of a waterproof barrier on Patagonia soft shells thus improving breathability tremendously.
When used on Patagonia hard shells, in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the Deluge DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Polartec® Power Shield®
This fabric isthe next generation of technical outwear - the soft shell. This clothing concept goes beyond traditional 2-layer systems, which feature fleece insulation and a waterproof/breathable shell, to a single layer that protects against all but the worst weather conditions and delivers extended breathability, abrasion resistance and stretch to enhance your outdoor experience.
How does it work?
Polartec® Power Shield® fabrics feature a smooth, tightly woven nylon face for abrasion resistance equal or superior to the best shells, but without the stiffness and noise. A polyester velour back traps air and provides a high warmth-to-weight ratio.
