Eagle Cap Wilderness Area
The Eagle Cap is Oregon's largest wilderness covering an area of 385,541 acres. The Wallowa mountain range covers a large part of this wilderness at 60 miles long and 30 miles wide. The Matterhorn Peak is the tallest of the 17 mountain peaks over 9,000 ft in this mountain range it reaches 9845 ft. This area is relatively dry with most of the moisture coming in snow. Most of the area is accessed through 3 main trailheads: Wallowa Lake, Two Pans and Hurricane Creek.
Ice Lake Trail: This lake sets in a spectacular area between Matterhorn Peak and Sacajawa. Matterhorn Peak is also accessible on a 1.9 mile ridge walk to its summit, a none technical hike.
