Feature Hike

Lake Sabrina to Midnight Lake

This trail gets you into some of California's most beautiful alpine wilderness quickly. Numerous alpine lakes and open terrain are available for the hiker to explore. One of the great views is of Mt Darwin at a height of 13,830 ft as well as Blue Lake at an elevation of 10,388 ft. The trailhead begins just below Lake Sabrina about an 18 mile drive from Bishop on highway 168.

Trailhead elevation at Lake Sabrina: 9130 ft
Elevation gain: 2620 ft
Map needed: USGS 7.5 min. Mt Thompson, Mt Darwin

Sabrina Lake is 200 acres in size at 9,130 feet elevation

The first fork in the trail takes you to Tyee Lakes. The following lakes are accessible from this section.

Little Lake George- 2.3 miles from the trailhead at 10,160 feet
George Lake- 2.7 miles from the trailhead at 10,700 feet
Tyee Lakes-At 4 1/4 miles from the trailhead these lakes sit at 11,000 ft. There are 6 lakes in this area.

Further along the main Blue Lake Trail......

Blue Lake-Blue Lake (30 acres) is at 10,200'
Donkey Lake-3.5 miles from the trailhead at 10,640 feet
Baboon Lakes-3 lakes at 11,000 ft and 3.7 miles from the trailhead
Sunset Lake-at 11,200 feet elevation and 5 miles from the trailhead

Along Blue Lake the trail forks up to Emerald Lake with access to the following..

Emerald Lake-At 10,400 feet, 3 miles from the trailhead this area consists of 4 smaller lakes
Dingleberry Lake-At 10,600 ft and is 3.7 miles from the trailhead
Pee Wee Lake-At 10,675 ft is 4.4 miles from the trailhead
Topsy Turvy Lake-At 10,800 ft and 4.5 miles
Sailor Lake-At 11,040 ft and 4.8 miles
Moonlight Lake-At 11,600 ft
Hungry Packer Lake-At 11,070 ft and 5.2 miles from the trailhead
