Feature Hike

Sunshine to Mt. Assiniboine

The Sunshine to Mt. Assiniboine is considered one of the most spectacular hikes in Alberta. This trail starts in Banff National Park and finishes in Mt. Provincial Park. The length of the trail is about 35 miles and requires 5-6 days to complete. Mt. Assiniboine is the star of the hike with an elevation of 11,870 ft and is called the Canada's Matterhorn. There are numerous side trips that should be taken while on this hike. One side trip not to miss is to Assiniboine Lodge.

Getting There:

The nearest airport is in Calgary, Alberta. You then travel to Banff (no airport), shuttles run year round from the Calgary airport to Banff.

Then take the Sunshine Villiage Shuttle Bus to Sunshine Meadows. Shuttle service is offered daily from June 5 (weather permitting) to September 30th. The hike starts here at Sunshine Meadows as do many other popular hikes.
